History of Bortezomib

Bortezomib (Velcade, specifically is an anti cancer agent, falls under the class of drugs known as proteasome inhibitors. It acts in order to inhibit the proteasomes, cellular complexes that are involved in breaking down the proteins. 

In the month of May, 2003, the Food and Drug Administration approved bortezomib for injection in order to treat RRMM (Relapsed and Refractory Multiple Myeloma). 

In the month of October, 2007, the Food and Drug Administration expanded Bortezomib for injection labels in order to treat patients with multiple myeloma. 

In the month of June, 2008, the Food and Drug Administration approved Bortezomib for injection in order to treat patients with the previously untreated MM (Multiple Myeloma). 

In the month of January, 2010, the Food and Drug Administration approved the addition of sustained overall survival benefit to the label for Bortezomib in order to treat patients with previously untreated MM (Multiple Myeloma). 

In the month of January, 2012, the Food and Drug Administration approved subcutaneous administration of Bortezomib in all approved indications.
